A visit to the Municipal Art Gallery on the first and second floors of the Town Hall is a must for all visitors. It houses the most important collection of masterpieces varying from figurative, classic and modern arts. Second only to the Urbino National Art Gallery, it is one of the most remarkable galleries in central Italy. The most unique work of art on display in the gallery is the great "Piviale di Nicolò IV" (Nicolò IV's Cloak), an example of "opus anglicanum". It is made of samite fabric with brocade and embroidered with gold thread and dates back to the XII century. The collection includes numerous panel paintings as well as on canvas by renowned modern and antique Masters among which one may find: Carlo Crivelli, Pietro Alamanno, Paolo da Visso, Cola dell'Amatrice, Tiziano, Simone de Magistris, V. Pagani, Gaulli, A. Carracci, Maratti, Guercino, Reni, Giordano, Callot, Magnasco, De Ferrari, Canaletto (B.Bellotto), Morelli, F. Palizzi, Celentano, Mancini, Ximenes, Pellizza da Volpedo, A. De Carolis, Appiani, Bistolfi, Camuccini, B. Ciardi, Postiglione, Mussini.
The visiting hours during the summer season are: Mondays to Fridays from 9-13 a.m. and from 15-19.30 p.m. The Gallery is closed on Saturday afternoons, but open on Sundats from 16-20 p.m. The visiting hours during the winter season are: from 9-13 on weekdays and from 9-12.30 over weekends.
