Ponte Tufillo and Ponte Nuovo

Found in the north-western zone of the city, Ponte Tufillo is a small two-arched bridge which crosses over the river Tronto from Porta Tufilla towards the suburb of Campo Parignano. It's called Ponte di Sant'Antonio, too. Possibly it rests on Roman piles, residued of a bridge dating back to that era. A sure proof of a preexistent bridge is present, and it was erected by the bishop Alberigo in 1097, whilst the one in today's form is attributed to Lazzaro Giosafatti (1610).
Slightly higher up from Ponte Tufillo, in order to facilitate the changing conditions of traffic and to serve the new settlements springing up in Campo Parignano, a new bridge was built upon Enrico Cesari and Umberto Pierpaoli's designs (1910). This one was given the name Ponte Nuovo to distinguish it from the old bridge further down. Recently it has had to undergo restoration for reasons of statics.
