Ventidio Basso Theatre

Situated in Via del Trivio, it was inaugurated in 1846. The design is by Ireneo Aleandri, but a remarkable amount of modifications have been contributed by Giovan Battista Carducci, Gabriele Gabrielli, Marco Massimi and Mazzoni. The name Ventidio Basso is in memory of an Ascolan citizen of the first century b.C. who had reached the top ranks of military hierarchy in Rome. The neoclassic façade is in travertino, the interior has five rows of boxes. The theatre's capacity is of 2.500 spectators. The rich plaster-work in gold is by brothers Giorgio and Emidio Paci, upon the design of Giovan Battista Carducci (1806-1878). The paintings on the ceiling are by Ferdinando Cicconi. At the present the theatre is being restored.
